C Color’s Ideology is based on Johannes Itten’s observation, while teaching at the Bauhaus School in Germany, in the 1900s.
Itten, the artist and teacher, realized that his art students painted with colors that appeared the best on them. Itten believed that there were certain characteristics inherent in particular colors that would have a direct influence on how the viewer felt.
Itten also discovered that color harmony is individual and that an individual will, if given free reign and little knowledge, find his or her own “subjective colors”. Itten posed the question, “Is it any surprise that many of us feel deeply influenced by the colors around us, and have more than one favorite?”
Intuitively, we are aware of our colors, but, most of us have no cognitive understanding of the optimal colors to wear or those that are appropriate for our environments.
